This resolution mourns the passing of Deanna "Dee" Dean Funk, a Springfield resident who died on January 25, 2025, and celebrates her life and contributions. Born in Akron, Ohio in 1939, Funk was a Northwestern University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology who became a devoted housewife, mother, and accomplished artist specializing in needlepoint, embroidery, and fabric dyeing. She was actively involved in numerous community organizations, including the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Junior League, Springfield Art Association, and Embroiders Guild of America, and was particularly passionate about her artwork and sharing her artistic techniques with others. The resolution highlights her commitment to family, noting that she considered being a grandmother her greatest accomplishment and was affectionately known as "Nana" who loved passing down her passion for art and genealogy to her grandchildren. The Illinois Senate officially extends its deepest sympathy to her surviving family members, including her children Anne and Donald, two granddaughters, and various other relatives, while also commemorating her 61-year marriage to her husband Donald and her many contributions to her community.
