This bill updates the existing law regarding postural screenings in schools by modifying when these screenings are conducted. Specifically, the bill changes the current requirement of annual postural screenings in grades five through nine to screenings that can now be performed in grades 6, 8, or 9, effectively removing the requirement for grade 5 and providing more flexibility in implementation. This means school districts will no longer be mandated to conduct these screenings every single year in those middle and early high school grades, but can choose to screen students in at least one of the specified grade levels. Postural screenings are typically health assessments designed to detect potential spinal curvature issues or early signs of conditions like scoliosis, which are important to identify during periods of rapid growth in adolescence.
