This bill modifies existing Massachusetts law to require drivers of motor vehicles and motor carrier vehicles to remove accumulated ice and snow from their vehicles, including the hood, trunk, and roof, within 24 hours after snow or ice has stopped falling. The law provides specific exemptions for drivers of commercial, transit, bus, or school bus vehicles who are en route to a facility to remove ice and snow, or who would violate workplace safety regulations or risk their health and safety by removing the ice and snow. Law enforcement officers are authorized to stop a vehicle if they believe the accumulated ice or snow could pose a threat to persons or property. Violations of this section will be subject to penalties as specified in the existing section 36 of chapter 85 of the Massachusetts General Laws. The bill aims to improve roadway safety by reducing the risk of ice and snow falling from vehicles and potentially causing accidents or injury to other drivers and pedestrians.
