This bill appropriates a total of $500,000 ($250,000 in fiscal years 2026 and 2027) from the state's general fund to the commissioner of children, youth, and families. The purpose is to provide grants to nationally recognized forensic interview protocol organizations to award scholarships for different levels of forensic interview training. These scholarships are targeted at professionals who work with child-related cases, including law enforcement officers, child protection workers, prosecutors, health professionals investigating and treating child maltreatment cases, and forensic interviewers at children's advocacy centers. The training scholarships will cover basic forensic interviewing, advanced techniques, and specialized interview topics, with the goal of improving professional skills in effectively and sensitively interviewing children in potentially sensitive or traumatic situations.
