This bill provides two separate appropriations to support employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities through Minnesota Diversified Industries (MDI). The first appropriation allocates $450,000 in both fiscal years 2026 and 2027 from the workforce development fund to the commissioner of employment and economic development, specifically for grants to MDI to provide inclusive employment opportunities and services for people with disabilities. The second appropriation provides $250,000 in fiscal year 2026 from the general fund to MDI to support career skills programming for individuals with disabilities. This programming will include virtual, online, and in-person career skills classes enhanced with virtual reality tools. As part of the second appropriation, MDI is required to submit a comprehensive report by January 15, 2028, detailing the number and demographics of individuals served, hours of career skills programming delivered, employer outreach efforts, and recommendations for future career skills delivery methods. Both appropriations are designated as onetime funding, with the second appropriation being available until June 30, 2027.
