This bill restores voting rights (suffrage) to Tracey Rushing of Hinds County, Mississippi, who had previously lost his right to vote due to multiple criminal convictions. Specifically, Rushing was disqualified as an elector after a robbery conviction in 1984, for which he was sentenced to five years with two years suspended and three years of probation. He subsequently received additional convictions in 1993 for compounding crime and residential burglary, resulting in three-year sentences. After being discharged in December 1996 and released to probation in March 1999, the bill notes that Rushing has since conducted himself as a law-abiding citizen. The Legislature is now formally restoring his right to vote, effectively removing any legal barriers that previously prevented him from participating in elections.
