This bill increases various licensure fees for the North Carolina Board of Nursing, effectively doubling most existing fees. Specifically, the bill raises fees for registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) for initial applications, examinations, license renewals, and reinstatements. For example, the application fee for RN examination will increase from $75 to $150, and endorsement fees will rise from $150 to $300. License renewal fees for both RNs and LPNs will increase from $100 to $200, and reinstatement fees will go from $180 to $280. The bill also increases the fee for retired nurse status applications from $50 to $100 and sets a limit that fees cannot increase by more than 20% from one year to the next. The North Carolina Board of Nursing is authorized to adopt temporary rules to implement these changes, which will become effective on October 1, 2025, and will apply to all applications, renewals, and reinstatements for licensure on or after that date.
