This bill amends the Texas Health and Safety Code to allow the state health department to issue a single license for a hospital and its mobile stroke unit under specific conditions. Currently, hospitals can receive a single license if they meet several criteria, such as having the same governing body, being within 30 miles of each other, having integrated medical staff, and sharing executive leadership. The new provision adds that a hospital can also receive a single license for its mobile stroke unit if the mobile stroke unit is accredited by a health care accreditation organization approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The bill also specifies that certain existing licensing regulations will not apply to mobile stroke units, and requires the Health and Human Services Commission to adopt rules to implement these changes. The bill is set to take effect on September 1, 2025, which gives state agencies time to prepare for the new licensing approach.
