This resolution honors the memory of Major Richard Wayne Brandt, a retired U.S. Air Force veteran from Ooltewah, Tennessee, who served his country for 20 years and worked an additional 15 years as a U.S. Army Civil Service drug and alcohol psychologist. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1943, Brandt held bachelor's and master's degrees and spent much of his military service in Germany, where he was an avid volksmarcher (long-distance walker) who traveled a distance equivalent to circumnavigating the earth. The resolution highlights his personal qualities, including his deep faith as a deacon at Delray Baptist Church, his lifelong love of Southern Gospel music as a member of the Trembling Troubadours (a Parkinson's music support group), and his devotion to family values. By formally acknowledging Major Brandt's life and service, the Tennessee General Assembly expresses its sympathy to his surviving family, including his wife of 53 years, Rose, and offers a tribute to his legacy of integrity, compassion, and dedication in both his public and private life.
