This bill establishes a weekend child day care assistance program specifically designed to support New York Army and Air National Guard members during their scheduled drill weekends. The program, developed jointly by the Division of Military and Naval Affairs and the Office of Children and Family Services, will provide free child day care for up to 12 hours at participating child care providers. To be eligible, National Guard members must be in good standing with their unit, prove they have no other adult available to care for their children during drill weekends, and meet specific family status requirements, such as being a single parent or part of a dual-military family. Child care providers must meet stringent requirements, including maintaining compliance with social services law, passing background checks, carrying liability insurance, and maintaining first aid and CPR certifications. The program aims to support National Guard members by removing child care barriers during their mandatory training weekends, with all child care costs processed directly to participating providers based on completed attendance sheets.
