This resolution establishes the House Study Committee on Noncompete Clauses in Physician Contracts to examine the impact of these clauses, which restrict doctors from practicing medicine in a specific area for a set time after leaving a job, on patient access to care and the state's healthcare system. The committee, composed of five appointed members of the House of Representatives, will study the issues surrounding these clauses, considering arguments that they can limit patient choice and disrupt care continuity, as well as the American Medical Association's (AMA) general opposition to them, particularly for physicians employed by hospitals or staffing companies. While Georgia law currently allows these restrictive covenants, courts review their reasonableness, and this study aims to determine if changes to existing law are warranted, with the committee to report its findings and any legislative recommendations by December 1, 2026.
