This bill allows the city school districts of Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Yonkers to provide transportation services for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade who live at least half a mile from their school, if the Commissioner of Education determines it is necessary due to safety concerns. This transportation would be limited to travel between home and school or to and from before or after-school childcare locations, and if provided, would cover distances up to fifteen miles. The services must be offered equally to all students in similar situations. Furthermore, the school districts must report on the program's results, including costs and impact on students, after the first three years of implementation.
