This bill establishes a senior housing task force within the division of housing and community renewal to conduct an annual state-wide assessment of senior housing needs. The task force will consist of 16 members, including representatives from various state agencies such as housing, aging, health, and economic development, as well as appointees from legislative leadership representing housing and senior citizen groups. The task force will meet at least annually in different geographical areas of the state and can use videoconferencing. Their primary responsibility is to assess senior housing needs across the state, considering factors like health care, long-term care, financial resources, and transportation needs for seniors in different regions. They will review innovative housing approaches in New York and other states and develop a comprehensive plan to provide quality senior housing over the next five years. The task force is required to submit an annual report by January 1st detailing their findings and recommendations to the governor, legislative leaders, and relevant committee chairs. While members will not be compensated, they will be reimbursed for travel and expenses. The bill will take effect 90 days after becoming law.
