This resolution designates the third week of March 2025 as "National CACFP Week", recognizing the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), a Department of Agriculture initiative that provides nutritious meals and snacks to children and adults in various care settings. In 2024, the program served over 4.5 million children in child care centers, family day care homes, emergency shelters, and after-school programs, as well as more than 115,000 adults in adult day care, totaling nearly 1.7 billion meals and snacks. The resolution highlights the program's importance in promoting positive nutrition habits, supporting working families and small businesses, and improving the overall quality of child care, particularly in low-income areas. Studies have shown that CACFP participation can positively impact children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical health, leading to benefits such as decreased hospitalization rates, healthier weight gain, and more varied diets. By designating this week, the Senate aims to raise awareness of the program's critical role in supporting the nutritional needs of vulnerable children and adults across the United States.
