This bill requires various health insurance providers in Nevada to include coverage for lung cancer screening starting January 1, 2026, based on guidelines from the American Cancer Society or other nationally recognized professional organizations. Specifically, the bill mandates that health insurers, group health plans, health benefit plans, medical service corporations, health maintenance organizations, and managed care organizations that provide coverage for lung cancer treatment must also cover lung cancer screening. These screening guidelines must be based on current scientific data. The bill also authorizes the Commissioner of Insurance to suspend or revoke the certificate of authority for health insurers who fail to comply with these requirements. Additionally, the bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services to conduct a study by July 1, 2026, to determine if the current lung cancer screening criteria create inequities in access based on sex or gender identity, and to submit a report with findings and recommendations to the Legislative Counsel Bureau. Medicaid managed care organizations are exempt from these new screening coverage requirements.
