This bill makes two primary changes to vehicle registration and autonomous vehicle regulations in Nevada. First, it allows trailers used primarily for farm purposes to be registered for a 5-year period instead of the standard 1-year or 3-year registration periods. When registering for this 5-year period, owners must pay all fees and taxes upfront as if they were registering for one year and then renewing for four consecutive years. These fees include registration fees, license plate fees, special plate fees, governmental services taxes, and other applicable state taxes. Second, the bill authorizes autonomous vehicles to be equipped with automated driving system marker lamps that indicate to external observers when the vehicle's automated driving system is operating. These marker lamps must comply with specific nationally recognized technical standards (SAE J3134 and SAE J578), which provide specifications for the color, brightness, and placement of such indicator lights. These changes aim to provide more flexible registration options for agricultural trailers and enhance the visibility of autonomous vehicle operations.
