This resolution congratulates the City of Princeton and the Flags of Freedom Committee on the 20th anniversary of their memorial display honoring veterans. The Flags of Freedom project was co-founded in 2004 by Jack Scott and Harry Burrows, with an initial goal of creating a memorial to recognize past, present, and future veterans and their families. The committee successfully raised over $320,000 through donations and fundraising events to purchase and professionally install flags and poles, with an official dedication ceremony on September 10, 2005, that was attended by over 2,500 people, including local and state dignitaries and military personnel. In 2007, the City of Princeton assumed maintenance responsibilities for the flags and poles, and in 2016, when funding became challenging, a new committee was formed to help support the display, with the city agreeing to maintain daily operations and purchase two flags annually. The resolution formally congratulates the city and committee on their milestone, and directs that copies of the resolution be presented to both the City of Princeton and the Flags of Freedom Committee as a symbol of respect and recognition.
