This bill establishes the Arkansas 2036 Commission to commemorate the state's bicentennial in 2036. The commission will have eight members, including representatives from the Division of Arkansas Heritage, the Department of Education, and appointees from the Speaker of the House, Senate President Pro Tempore, and the Governor. The commission's primary purposes are to promote a statewide observance of Arkansas's 200th birthday, explore the potential construction of a commemorative landmark to boost tourism, collaborate with the Division of Arkansas Heritage on bicentennial programs, and develop activities that highlight the state's history and heritage. The Director of the Division of Arkansas Heritage (or their designee) will serve as the commission's chair and is responsible for calling the first meeting within 30 days of the act's effective date. Members will serve without compensation and will hold their positions until December 31, 2036, with the commission itself expiring on that same date. The Division of Arkansas Heritage will provide staff support, and a majority of members will constitute a quorum for conducting business.
