This resolution commends Valerie Taylor, a cancer patient and advocate who has dedicated herself to improving healthcare access for patients facing similar challenges. After being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in 2018 and experiencing a coverage gap in Medicaid that left her without critical healthcare, Taylor became a passionate advocate for closing healthcare coverage gaps. Her advocacy efforts include engaging with lawmakers, sharing her story in media outlets, participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Team in Training program, and raising nearly $5,000 for cancer research. In 2022, she was honored as the LLS Advocacy Champion of the Year and continues to work as the organization's Advocacy Leader for Georgia. The resolution recognizes her as a fierce advocate and survivor who has made significant contributions to the cancer community by raising awareness about the need for equitable healthcare access and supporting policy changes that can help patients access life-saving treatments. The Senate not only commends her outstanding work but also directs the Secretary of the Senate to provide her with an official copy of the resolution.
