This bill authorizes the clerk of the Probate Court of Macon County to charge a technology fee of up to $5.00 for each civil action filing and up to $5.00 as a surcharge on each court fine. The collected funds must be used exclusively for technological improvements of the Probate Court, which specifically include purchasing computer hardware and software, leasing and maintaining computer equipment, acquiring imaging and communication technologies, and converting court records to digital formats for public access. The fees will be kept in a separate account and can only be used for these designated technological purposes. The authority to assess this technology fee will expire on July 1, 2035, at which point any remaining funds will be dedicated to general Macon County technology uses. This bill aims to provide the Macon County Probate Court with a dedicated funding mechanism to modernize and improve its technological infrastructure and record-keeping systems.
