This bill amends the Pharmacy Act to modify the composition and appointment process of the State Board of Pharmacy. The changes include expanding the board from seven to eight members by adding a registered pharmacy technician, who will be appointed on a rotating basis between acute care institutional and independent or chain pharmacies. The pharmacy technician must be registered with the board for at least five years or provide verification of five years of work experience in the Commonwealth. The bill also clarifies that two pharmacists will be appointed from independent retail pharmacies, two from retail chain pharmacies with five or more locations, and two from acute care institutional pharmacies. Each pharmacist must have been registered for at least five years prior to appointment. The bill modifies term limits, specifying that the pharmacy technician can serve only one six-year term, while other board members cannot serve more than two consecutive terms. All professional, pharmacy technician, and public members will continue to be appointed by the Governor with Senate approval, and the bill will take effect 60 days after enactment.
