This bill amends the membership of the state's Opioids, Substance Use, and Addiction Subcabinet by adding four new members to the existing group of commissioners and leaders. Specifically, the bill expands the subcabinet to include the commissioner of children, youth, and families; the chief executive officer of direct care and treatment; the commissioner of commerce; and the director of the Office of Cannabis Management. These additions bring the total number of subcabinet members from nine to thirteen. The subcabinet, which focuses on addressing issues related to opioids, substance use, and addiction, continues to be chaired by the governor's director of addiction and recovery. The bill maintains the existing core membership of commissioners from human services, health, education, public safety, corrections, management and budget, and higher education, while also retaining the chair of the Interagency Council on Homelessness. This expansion appears intended to bring more diverse perspectives and expertise to the subcabinet's work in addressing substance use and addiction challenges in Minnesota.
