Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to increasing civil service credits given to veterans currently returning from service
AI Summary
This bill amends the New York Civil Service Law to increase additional points for veterans in competitive examinations for civil service jobs. Specifically, veterans who are honorably discharged on or after January 1, 2025, will receive ten extra points for original appointments and five extra points for promotions in competitive examinations. Disabled veterans honorably discharged during the same period will receive an even more generous credit, gaining fifteen points for original appointments and ten points for promotions. These additional points are designed to provide veterans with a competitive advantage in civil service job applications and promotions, recognizing their military service and potentially helping them transition to civilian employment. The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment, allowing eligible veterans to benefit from these enhanced civil service credits starting in 2025.
