This bill establishes the Advanced Coursework Expansion Incentive Grant Program, designed to support and encourage high schools with limited advanced course offerings to expand their college-level programs for economically disadvantaged students. Under this program, school districts that currently offer fewer than five advanced courses can apply for grants of $350 per student who completes a college credit-earning course (such as Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate) and takes the corresponding exam. To be eligible, a district must have at least ten economically disadvantaged students complete the coursework and exam in the previous year. The bill defines economically disadvantaged students as those participating in various economic assistance programs like free/reduced lunch, SSI, food stamps, foster care, and TANF. Grant funds can be used for teacher training, professional development, course materials, textbooks, online resources, lab equipment, and student support services to help create and sustain new advanced courses. The program is subject to appropriation and aims to increase access to rigorous academic opportunities for students from lower-income backgrounds. The bill will take effect on the first of July following its enactment.
