This bill amends the public authorities law to provide specific benefits to Metro-North Commuter Railroad employees who witness or are directly involved in a serious injury or fatality during the course of their assigned duties. The benefits include seven consecutive paid working days off (excluding regularly scheduled days off), optional mental health services and counseling, and a mandatory mental health examination by the employee's healthcare provider before returning to work. If the healthcare provider recommends additional time off, the employee can receive up to four additional weeks of paid leave. Throughout this period, Metro-North must compensate the employee at a rate equal to what they would have earned in their original work assignment.
