This bill amends Arkansas state law to remove the requirement that a homeschooled student must live within a twenty-five-mile radius of a private school in order to participate in its interscholastic activities. The bill keeps other existing provisions for homeschooled student participation, which include: notifying the private school's administrative head in writing about their intent to participate before signup or tryout deadlines, and demonstrating academic eligibility by either achieving a minimum test score of the thirtieth percentile on the Stanford Achievement Test Series or another nationally recognized norm-referenced test within the previous twelve months, or obtaining a minimum score on a test approved by the State Board of Education. By eliminating the geographic radius restriction, the bill expands opportunities for homeschooled students to engage in extracurricular activities at private schools, regardless of their distance from the school.
