AI Summary

This bill provides a targeted homestead tax exemption for residents of the City of Dublin independent school district based on their age, specifically offering increasing levels of property tax relief for educational purposes to older homeowners. Residents aged 62-64 would receive a $7,000 exemption, those aged 65-72 would get a $14,000 exemption, residents aged 73-79 would receive a $21,000 exemption, and homeowners 80 years and older would be fully exempt from school district educational ad valorem taxes. The exemption would apply only to school district taxes, not other types of taxes, and would be in effect for tax years 2026-2030. To implement these exemptions, the bill requires a referendum in November 2025, where voters in the Dublin independent school district will decide whether to approve the tax relief measure. The bill specifies that homeowners must apply initially for the exemption and provide proof of age, after which the exemption will be automatically renewed each year as long as they continue to occupy the property as their primary residence. The exemption is contingent upon receiving a two-thirds majority vote in the Georgia General Assembly and voter approval in the local referendum.
