This resolution commends Marquis Sanders, a young man from Arlington, Texas, for his lifesaving actions during a medical emergency on December 29, 2024. While playing football at Bowie High School, Sanders' friend Isaiah Stokes experienced a sudden cardiac arrest and lost consciousness. Drawing upon CPR training he received from the American Red Cross, Sanders quickly took charge of the situation by directing bystanders to call 9-1-1 and then performing continuous CPR until Arlington firefighters and medics arrived. Thanks to Sanders' heroic efforts and the subsequent medical response from Fire Station 12, Stokes recovered from the heart attack and was released from the hospital in January 2025. The Texas House of Representatives formally recognizes Sanders' calm and skillful response to the medical crisis by officially commending him and extending best wishes for his future. As part of the resolution, an official copy will be prepared for Sanders as a tangible expression of the House's high regard for his life-saving actions.
