This bill amends Section 3033 of the Fish and Game Code to clarify eligibility for a reduced-fee hunting license for disabled veterans and recovering service members. A disabled veteran is defined as someone with a 50% or greater service-connected disability and an honorable discharge, who can prove their disability through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or by presenting a license from the previous year. A recovering service member is defined by federal law (specifically, Section 1602(7) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008) and must provide a letter from their commanding officer or a military doctor confirming their status. Both categories of applicants must also not have any violations of the Fish and Game Code and provide adequate documentation to the department to prove their eligibility for the reduced fee, which is set at $4 for the hunting license year beginning July 1, 1995, and may be adjusted annually thereafter.
