Born in San Antonio in 1938, Dr. Parker was an esteemed educator who taught at Lamar State College Port Arthur for 31 years, serving in leadership roles such as chair of the Liberal Arts Department and organizing the Faculty Senate. She earned degrees from Southwestern University, Lamar University, and a doctorate in political science from the University of Houston. Throughout her life, she was deeply involved in community service, supporting organizations like the YMCA, Recovery Council of Southeast Texas, and the Service League of Port Arthur. Dr. Parker was married to State Senator Carl Parker for 64 years, and they had three children and four grandchildren. The resolution honors her significant contributions to education, public service, and her community, extending sincere condolences to her family and acknowledging her as a source of inspiration. The Texas House of Representatives unanimously adopted this resolution to memorialize her life and achievements, and an official copy will be prepared for her family.
