This bill establishes a matching grant program within the department, which refers to a state government agency, to help fund the construction and renovation of fire stations. Eligible applicants, such as those responsible for building or improving a fire station, can apply for these grants, and the department will provide up to 50 percent of the project's total cost, provided the legislature appropriates the necessary funds. A dedicated "fire station grant fund" will be created to hold these appropriations, and any income earned from this fund can also be added. Money in this fund will not expire at the end of a fiscal year and can be used for grants in future years, with at least 50 percent of the fund's balance from the previous June 30th being allocated for grants each year. The department is authorized to create regulations to manage this program, and the entire act will become effective on July 1, 2026.
