This bill requires the creation of an eleven-member task force to develop a model curriculum and instructional materials focusing on the political, economic, and social contributions of LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual) people for middle and high school students. The task force members will be appointed by various state leaders, including the governor, senate and assembly leaders, board of regents chancellor, and the education commissioner, who will serve as chairperson. Appointees must represent diverse backgrounds and have demonstrated educational expertise in LGBTQIA history. Task force members will serve without compensation but will be reimbursed for expenses. Within one year of initial appointments, the task force must submit a comprehensive report with recommendations for inclusive curriculum and instructional practices to state leaders, including the governor, senate and assembly leaders, education committees, board of regents, and the commissioner. The bill will take effect on the first of July following its passage and will apply to school years commencing on or after that date, with immediate authorization for developing necessary regulations.
