This bill establishes the Diversity Inclusive Curriculum Pilot Program to provide instruction on the political, economic, and social contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals in Pennsylvania schools. The three-year pilot program will begin in the 2026-2027 school year and allow school entities and nonpublic schools to voluntarily participate by submitting proposals to the Department of Education by May 15, 2026. The Department of Education will be responsible for selecting participating schools, establishing program guidelines in consultation with professional organizations serving diverse populations, and using available federal, state, and other funding to support the initiative. Participating schools must annually report on their program implementation, including progress and challenges. The Department will contract with a nationally recognized educational evaluation institution to assess the program's effectiveness and publish an annual public report by August 1st, which will be submitted to the chairs and minority chairs of both the Senate and House Education Committees. The program aims to create a curriculum that highlights the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals, with particular consideration given to curriculum developed by organizations with significant LGBTQ+ leadership. The bill will take effect 60 days after its passage.
