This resolution commemorates Myositis Awareness Month in May 2025, highlighting the challenges faced by individuals with myositis, a rare group of chronic autoimmune muscle diseases. The resolution emphasizes that myositis affects nearly one in ten Americans and is characterized by muscle inflammation, pain, fatigue, and potential complications like interstitial lung disease. It acknowledges the difficulty in diagnosing and treating myositis, noting that patients often struggle to find healthcare providers with expertise in the condition. The resolution points out that myositis significantly reduces patients' quality of life, shortens life expectancy, and disproportionately impacts women and people of color. By recognizing The Myositis Association (TMA) as the leading international patient advocacy organization, the resolution supports TMA's efforts to raise awareness, provide patient services, and advance research with the ultimate goal of finding a cure. The Tennessee Senate and House of Representatives formally join TMA in observing May 2025 as Myositis Awareness Month and resolve to prepare an official copy of the resolution for presentation.
