Bill Summary

AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to reimbursement for child care absences

AI Summary

This bill amends the social services law to establish new reimbursement criteria for child care absences. Specifically, the bill requires that child care providers be reimbursed for a minimum of twelve days of child absences within a six-month period, with a maximum number of absences set at no less than twenty-four days in the same period. These maximum absences will be determined by the Office of Children and Family Services through regulation. Additionally, the bill allows for reimbursement beyond the standard maximum in cases of extenuating circumstances, which will also be defined by the Office of Children and Family Services. The purpose of this legislation appears to be providing more flexibility for families and child care providers by ensuring financial support during periods when children cannot attend child care due to various reasons. The bill will take effect on the first of April following its enactment.
