This bill amends the Michigan Vehicle Code to expand the definition of "authorized emergency vehicles" and update regulations regarding emergency vehicle lighting. For emergency vehicles owned by MABAS, the bill now allows them to be equipped with flashing, rotating, or oscillating red, white, amber, or green lights when responding to an emergency, and permits the sale and use of such lights to MABAS personnel. Additionally, the bill clarifies and standardizes language around light usage for various types of vehicles, including police, fire, utility, and public service vehicles. The bill is tied to another piece of legislation (House Bill 4302) and will only take effect if that companion bill is also enacted into law.
