AI Summary

This bill amends Georgia's education and online safety laws to enhance student protection and awareness regarding internet and social media usage. The Department of Education will be required to develop and periodically update model programs for students in grades six through 12 that cover a comprehensive range of online safety topics, including the social, emotional, and physical effects of social media, mental health impacts, risks of sharing online content, cyberbullying, and potential dangers like predatory behavior and human trafficking. The bill adds new requirements for the model programs, such as instruction on age verification procedures, dangers of viewing harmful material, and how to report suspicious online behavior. Additionally, the Department of Education must publish guidance on best practices for secure browsing and parental controls on its website and will be required to evaluate an annual report from the Attorney General documenting online safety enforcement actions. Local school boards will have the option to incorporate these internet safety components into their instructional programs. The goal is to provide students with critical knowledge and skills to navigate online environments safely and responsibly.
