This bill modifies an existing law concerning the State Court of Cobb County by increasing the number of assistant solicitor positions and adjusting the compensation for certain staff. Specifically, it allows for additional assistant solicitors to be hired, with the exact number tied to the number of full-time magistrates in Cobb County's Magistrate Court, plus four more. These assistant solicitors, who must be licensed attorneys in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia, will have a minimum annual salary of $83,400 starting in 2027, with the final amount determined by the solicitor-general and approved by Cobb County's governing body. The solicitor-general can also designate some assistant solicitors as supervisors, whose duties will be set by the solicitor-general, and these supervisors will be prohibited from practicing law privately. The bill also authorizes the solicitor-general to appoint a specific number of assistant solicitors to serve as supervisors, whose duties and assignments will be determined by the solicitor-general, and who will be barred from private legal practice while serving in that capacity. This Act will take effect on July 1, 2026.
