AI Summary
This bill proposes to increase homestead tax exemptions for older residents of the Gordon County school district. Specifically, the bill modifies existing tax exemptions for homeowners by raising the exemption amount for residents aged 65-69 from $40,000 to $50,000, for residents aged 70-74 from $100,000 to $115,000, and creates a new exemption of $125,000 for residents 75 years and older. These exemptions apply to ad valorem (property) taxes for educational purposes within the school district. The bill requires a referendum to be held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November 2025, where voters in the Gordon County school district will decide whether to approve these increased exemptions. If more than half of the votes cast are in favor, the new tax exemption levels will take effect on January 1, 2026. The bill also includes provisions ensuring compliance with constitutional requirements and mandating that the election superintendent conduct the referendum, with potential judicial remedies if they fail to do so.
