AI Summary
This bill establishes the Safe Path Restricted Account, a new funding mechanism within Pennsylvania's General Fund specifically designed to support safe passage programs. In fiscal year 2025-2026, $50 million will be transferred into this account, which will be administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The funds are intended to provide grants to political subdivisions and nonprofit organizations that create or operate programs ensuring safe transportation routes for youth and adults traveling to and from schools and community centers. The bill prioritizes funding for areas experiencing high rates of gun violence, as determined by the commission. The grant program aims to improve community safety by supporting initiatives that help vulnerable populations navigate potentially dangerous neighborhoods more securely. The legislation will take effect 60 days after its passage, providing an immediate mechanism to address community safety concerns by supporting protective transit programs.
