AI Summary

This bill, known as the Artificial Intelligence Training Data Transparency Act, requires developers of generative artificial intelligence (AI) models or services to publicly disclose information about the data used to train these systems on their websites. Generative AI refers to AI that can create new content like text, images, or audio. Developers, defined as entities that create or significantly modify AI models for public use, must provide a high-level summary of the datasets, including their sources, how they serve the AI's purpose, the number of data points (which can be in general ranges), the types of data, whether copyrighted or public domain material was used, if the data was purchased or licensed, if it includes personal or aggregate consumer information, any modifications made to the data, the collection period, and when the data was first used in development. This requirement applies to AI models or services released on or after January 1, 2022, and any substantial modifications to them, with the initial disclosure due by January 1, 2027. Exceptions exist for AI used solely for aircraft operation or for national security, military, or defense purposes made available only to federal entities.
