This bill amends the Delaware Code to deny retirement and disability benefits to teachers who have been convicted of sexually abusing a student. Specifically, the bill establishes that any teacher, or their survivors or beneficiaries, who would otherwise be eligible for retirement or disability benefits under the existing law, will be disqualified from receiving those benefits if the teacher is convicted of sexual abuse of a student. Additionally, the bill stipulates that benefits will also be denied to an individual who is currently under indictment for such an offense and deliberately remains outside of the United States for more than one month to avoid prosecution. This legislation aims to prevent individuals who have committed serious sexual offenses against students from receiving retirement or disability benefits, effectively using financial penalties as an additional deterrent to such misconduct.
