This resolution creates a Senate Study Committee on Inclusive Educational Settings for Students with Disabilities, composed of seven Senate members appointed by the Senate President, who will also designate the committee's chairperson. The committee's primary purpose is to examine the conditions, needs, and issues surrounding inclusive educational settings for students with disabilities, drawing from evidence that such settings can provide significant benefits, including improved academic performance, higher likelihood of secondary and postsecondary education enrollment, and increased independence in adulthood. The committee is authorized to conduct meetings as needed, with legislative members receiving standard allowances for up to five days (with potential for additional days), and is tasked with producing a report of findings and potential legislative recommendations. The committee members will investigate how inclusive educational settings can help address traditional barriers and misconceptions about the capabilities of students with disabilities, while also exploring the potential neutral or positive impacts on students without disabilities. The committee is set to be abolished on December 1, 2025, and any final report must be approved by a majority vote of the committee and filed with the Secretary of the Senate.
