This resolution honors Specialist Ethan M. Ward and Specialist Brandon T. Moore, two Tennessee National Guardsmen who were named the 2025 National Guardsmen of the Year for their heroic actions during the disaster response to Hurricane Helene on September 27, 2024, in Erwin, Tennessee. During the hurricane, these soldiers from the 776th Maintenance Company demonstrated exceptional bravery by rescuing six civilians who were being swept down the Nolichucky River while themselves stranded on a floating debris pile after their vehicle was overturned by debris. Despite personal risk, they successfully saved all six people, coordinated with first responders using hand signals, and ensured the civilians were safely hoisted onto a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter before their own extraction. The resolution recognizes their extraordinary courage, commitment to service, and embodiment of the highest standards of conduct expected of National Guard soldiers, ultimately commending them for their life-saving actions and presenting them with public recognition and appreciation.
