This resolution honors the life and legacy of Clarence "Ed" Barker, a long-serving Georgia state senator who represented the 18th Senatorial District for nine consecutive terms from 1973 to 1991. Barker, who was born in Augusta and raised in Warner Robins, Georgia, demonstrated a strong work ethic from an early age and dedicated nearly two decades to public service. Beyond his political career, he served in leadership roles with the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce and the Air Force Association, and later he and his wife Janet operated a successful furniture and decorator showroom in Highlands, North Carolina. The resolution highlights Barker's community engagement, including his involvement in President Jimmy Carter's campaign and helping bring Rev. Billy Graham's services to Georgia. The House of Representatives formally expresses its deepest condolences and recognition of Barker's contributions, and directs the House Clerk to provide an official copy of the resolution to his family, who includes his wife of over 70 years, Janet, as well as his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
