This bill amends the New York public health law to require general hospitals to notify patients about hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) during the intake and registration process. Specifically, within 180 days of issuing certain required reports, hospitals must conspicuously post signs that detail hospital-acquired infections that occurred in the facility during the prior 30-day period. These signs must be easily understandable to the general public and include directions on how to obtain additional information. The format of the signs should be consistent with summary tables already required by the health department. Hospitals must update these notifications daily and must provide an individual copy of the information to patients upon request. The health department is tasked with establishing penalties for hospitals that fail to comply with these notification requirements. The bill aims to increase transparency and provide patients with important information about infection risks during their hospital stay, empowering them to make more informed healthcare decisions.
