This bill amends the New York public health law to exclude the five state-run veterans homes from certain financial assessments on their gross receipts. Specifically, the bill adds the New York State Veterans Homes at Oxford, Montrose, Batavia, Saint Albans, and Stony Brook to the list of healthcare facilities exempt from assessments under section 2807-d of the public health law. These veterans homes provide care for honorably discharged veterans, their spouses and widows, and gold star parents. The bill directs the Commissioner of Health to apply to the federal Department of Health and Human Services for any necessary waivers to ensure these veterans homes are excluded from the assessment requirements. By exempting these facilities from assessments, the bill aims to reduce financial burdens on state-run veterans healthcare facilities. The bill will take effect on the first day of January following its enactment.
