This bill allows State veterans cemeteries in North Carolina to sell monuments and memorials to honor individuals interred within their grounds. Specifically, the bill permits cemeteries to offer for purchase items such as memorial trees, granite or marble markers, and benches, while explicitly excluding headstones. The cemeteries can establish stylistic guidelines for these monuments but cannot completely prohibit their sale. They are required to sell these items at market rates, and all proceeds from sales must be used exclusively for the maintenance, improvement, and care of the specific cemetery where the items are sold. The bill will become effective on October 1, 2025, and represents a new provision that gives veterans' families more options for commemorating their loved ones within State veterans cemeteries while generating additional funding for cemetery upkeep.
