AI Summary
This bill amends existing Louisiana laws to prohibit discrimination based on military status across several areas of public life, including education, employment, public accommodations, and housing. Specifically, the bill adds "military status" as a protected category in laws governing public schools, employment practices, access to public buildings, and housing transactions. The bill defines "military status" as including members of the uniformed forces of the United States or reserve components, as well as dependents of service members who have been supported by a service member for at least 180 days immediately preceding an alleged discriminatory action. Under this legislation, it would be unlawful for employers to refuse to hire, terminate, or otherwise discriminate against individuals because of their military status; for public schools to deny admission based on military status; for public facilities to deny access to individuals based on military status; and for housing providers to refuse to rent, sell, or provide services to individuals because of their military status. The bill aims to ensure that individuals with military connections are protected from discrimination and have equal opportunities in various aspects of society.
