This resolution recognizes the outstanding achievements of the Van Buren High School wrestling teams during the 2024-2025 state championship season. The Pointers wrestling team won their fourth consecutive Class 5A state championship, scoring 149 points and defeating Lakeside High School, and qualified wrestlers in 11 out of 14 weight classes, with 9 wrestlers finishing in the top 4. Notable individual champions include Dakota Fenwick (132-pound class), Don O'Kelly (126-pound class), and Alex Lopez (157-pound class), with Fenwick and O'Kelly achieving their third consecutive state championships. The Lady Pointers wrestling team finished as state runners-up with 134 points and had three individual state champions: Breanna Lozano (115-pound class), Eva Garcia (120-pound class), and Evelyn Romero (170-pound class). Breanna Lozano was named Outstanding Wrestler for the lower weight class, and Head Coach John Petree was named Class 5A Wrestling Coach of the Year. The resolution officially recognizes these achievements and directs that a copy be presented to Head Coach John Petree and Assistant Coach Dakota Petree by the Senate Secretary.
